When to visit Vale do Lobo. March through May is golden — courses are at their sharpest, daytime 18–22°C, and the beach is still quiet enough for the cliff-side walks. September and October is the second-best window — warm seas, harvest menus at the Praça, and shoulder-rate villas. Skip August if you can; the resort's restaurants book out the entire central piazza. December through February is the easiest tee-sheet time and the only window for the resort's clay-pigeon shooting and tennis academy clinics.

Walk west from the Praça at 7 a.m. into the Parcours de Saúde (the dune-side health trail) toward the eastern limit of the beach — the only hour the cliff walk is hangover-free and the light catches the whole Praia do Garrão arc. For golf, book the Ocean Course at twilight (last 18 minutes of tee times year-round) — the cliff-edge par-3s are lit by the same golden colour the Portuguese Open photographers chase, and with the buggies parked you'll usually get a half-empty course. Eat at Spikes Restaurant at the Royal Clubhouse (the Royal Golf Course's own kitchen, spikes.pt) — the actual point is the fresh-fish board; book ahead for the terrace at sunset.
